The NFL is now in full swing and you are knocking back coffee with your football mug supporting your team as you watch live, so now its time to learn how to clean your coffee mug before the next game.
In the last article we discussed about the importance of keeping your coffee mug clean, with the best practice of the dishwasher with the highest of temperatures to kill of any undesirable bacteria.
However, today we will be discussing how to get rid of those annoying stains when the dishwasher is not able to get rid of them.
Annoying Coffee Stains
When I got my first coffee mug, there was a time when I would not bother putting it into the dishwasher after each use. So the build up of coffee stains inside the football mug would increase each time after each use.
Of course, I would give it a quick rinse when I was ready for another coffee, but I got into a nasty habit of not washing it after each use. The problem is that after drinking my coffee, I would not rinse it off after watching the NFL Live and I would just leave it.
Let me give you a word of advice. This is a really bad idea!
Even if you do rinse it off after each use in this way the coffee stains will keep occurring and eventually one day you will realize you have a real mess.
The Muggy Dark Vortex
When it dawned on me how dark and murky the insides of my mug was becoming, then I decided to put it into the dishwasher. Needless to say Disaster!
Upon pulling the mug out of the dishwasher and even trying a few additional dish-washing sessions on the hottest and maximum of settings. Those annoying coffee stains would still be there.
I decided to stop procrastinating and do what I needed to do and get on with some cleaning!
Before we continue here, to let you know that its best not to be so lazy like me and take the time to give your football mug a good hand scrub and perhaps then put it into the dishwasher.
Time For A Good Scrub…
Here is a simple guide and step-by-step analysis of suggestions:
- Drink your ideal coffee brand.
- Afterwards, fill the kitchen sink with hot water.
- Put some washing up liquid under the running tap.
- Take a sponge or scrubber and start to thoroughly clean the insides of your mug.
- Rinse off your mug and your done!
These tips are only necessary if you have not been cleaning your mug properly. If you have been putting it into the dishwasher every time after each use then you should be good.
As an additional tip, if you run into the above mess of a thick film of the potential of a new coffee civilization growing within the abyss of your inner coffee soul. 😉 You could use white vinegar, for scrubbing out the insides of your football coffee mug.
I have often used White Vinegar when running my dishwasher for general use, as it can work on giving amazing results for a good clean.
If you want to try this I would suggest no more that half a cup of white vinegar. You would pour this into the button of the dishwasher, then add in the dish-washer detergent as normal before starting the cycle.
Perhaps though you could leave the coffee stains in your mug as is, if you think it makes you look like a more harden seasoned NFL veteran. 🙂
To conclude through, don’t invite me around, I may give your coffee mug a scrub clean before the football game starts. Always be hygienic and happy cleaning!
